ANNUAL APPEAL

2011-2012

Madonna Place changes lives.  Families are strengthened and children are safer, healthy and succeeding in school.  We do this by working with families to build the five protective factors identified in research to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect.  No one can eliminate the stress of parenting, but a parent’s reliance and capacity to handle stress can make a difference in how they handle the challenges, problems and crises that are a part of raising children.

Families experiencing crises such as domestic violence, substance abuse, or mental illness need treatment for these issues, but also may benefit from concrete supports such as food, shelter, clothing or healthcare in order to help stabilize their families.  Families who are isolated may need help in building social connections to other families and their community so they can receive emotional support or have the opportunity to give back, and build a network of support for themselves and their family.

Babies and young children develop and thrive when a healthy attachment has formed with their parents.  We have found that fragile families experiencing multiple stressors do well with early intervention and prevention activities that promote positive parenting beginning prenatally or immediately after birth.  Parents also need timely information about child development and parenting expectations as their children are growing so they can understand their child’s needs and see their child in a positive way.

These protective factors - building parental resilience, providing concrete supports, building social connections, nurturing and attachment, and knowledge of parenting and child development - form the basis for our successful work at Madonna Place.

We could not do this work without our partners in the community, and that includes generous individuals like you.  We greatly appreciate your commitment to strengthening families by considering a tax-deductible contribution to Madonna Place.  We welcome donations made in honor of a loved one or in memory of ones you hold dear.

Sincerely,
